Introduction

In this project, we explore a dataset to identify valuable patterns, trends, and insights that support informed decision-making. This report dives into the analysis of data gotten from a supermarket to give accurate insights that play a crucial role in business.

Data Overview 

The dataset provided is a sample of sales transactions from a supermarket in the United States, sourced from Kaggle. It has undergone thorough verification to ensure accuracy and completeness, making it a reliable source for analysis. The dataset contains crucial details such as postal codes, city locations, shipping modes, product categories, quantities of items purchased, and the resulting profit or loss from each transaction.

With records from 9,994 customers across 49 states, this data provides a comprehensive view of supermarket sales performance. It enables the exploration of key business metrics, including consumer purchasing behavior, regional sales distribution, and the impact of shipping methods on profitability. By analyzing this dataset, valuable insights can be gained into sales trends, customer preferences, and operational efficiency, helping businesses make informed decisions to optimize performance and maximize revenue.

Observation and Visualisation

Analyzing the dataset reveals several important trends that offer valuable insights into the supermarket's sales performance. Sales figures vary across different states, with some regions contributing more to overall profits than others. Additionally, shipping mode choices seem to influence profitability, indicating a potential opportunity for cost optimization. Examining product categories highlights the most frequently purchased items and those that generate the highest revenue. These findings serve as a basis for a deeper exploration of customer purchasing behavior, operational efficiency, and potential areas for business growth.

The West region recorded the highest sales at $0.73 million, while the South had the lowest sales, totaling $0.39 million. Consumers contributed the most to overall profit, accounting for $0.13 million of the total $0.29 million profit.
